Beatitudes Campus - Building a Healthy America
Beatitudes Campus is Building a Healthy America
Retirement community acknowledges its care staff during National Nurses Week
PHOENIX – The Beatitudes Campus, a continuing care retirement community in north-central phoenix, is proud to be a part of building a healthy community for its residents and families through the care by nurses and other health care staff. Our care staff are a small, but important part of America's 2.9 million registered nurses who save lives and maintain the health of millions of individuals.
To honor our nurses and care staff, the Beatitudes Campus is participating in National Nurses Week, celebrated May 6-12 throughout the United States. Collectively, our community has a total of 100 Registered Nurses (R.N.), Licensed Practical Nurses (L.P.N.), Certified Nursing Assistants (C.N.A.), and care givers all working together in our Health Care Center (skilled nursing), Assisted Living and Independent Living areas.
This year, the American Nurses Association (ANA) has selected "Nurses: Building a Healthy America" as the theme for 2009. Annually, National Nurses Week begins on May 6, marked as RN Recognition Day, and ends on May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, founder of nursing as a modern profession.
“One of my favorite things about being a nurse is that I get to be a very approachable source of health information, says Rebecca Jagernauth, R.N. and Campus Wellness Nurse for Independent Living. Much of my time is spent educating residents about health issues in a relaxed, non-intimidating atmosphere and that is why I love what I do at the Beatitudes!”
Mark Trent, an L.P.N. and 15-year employee mentioned, “I have worked at many of the skilled nursing facilities in the Phoenix area over the years. After 15 years, I still think the Beatitudes Campus is the best in the Valley in terms of quality and overall care for its residents.” And Gaby Arias, a new C.N.A. says, “I’m here (Beatitudes Campus) because I like the medical field and I learned of an opportunity to take a C.N.A. training class that the Campus offered as part of my hiring process. In my life, I have not been able to spend time with my grandparents so working with the residents is my way of showing the love that I have for older people.”
Traditionally, National Nurses Week is devoted to highlighting the diverse ways in which registered nurses, the largest health care profession, are working to improve health care. Karen Mitchell, R.N., Director of Nursing and Campus employee for 26 years said, “We are celebrating the wonderful people who share their compassion, accountability, respect, and excellence in nursing and health care service to our more than 600 older adults at the Beatitudes Campus. Nursing makes a difference in the lives of many, each and every day.”
